That is so weird. The fact that we're noticing it enough to be like...this seems like a thing? Say's a lot. I was intrigued by your thought that people have lost interest in presenting themselves with dignity and what that says about the social fabric. I wondered the same thing when I saw everyone in their pajamas and sweats at the airport.
OMG, airport 'fashion' is aweful!!!! I don't even know what airport socks are and don't want to know. Are they anything like hospital socks? With the weird gripper pattern on the bottom? To me airport socks are when I travel in the summer wearign sandals and i bring a pair of athletic socks in my purse to put on my feet because the airplane is cold.
In February I took a flight to go to a funeral and I could not believe a young person in line in front of me was actually wearing baby blue fluffy slippers!!! I sneaked a picture because 😱 🫣 🙁 what in the hell? I guess he never heard of inside clothes and outside clothes.
Yes, they have the gripper soles. And they are not really attractive and I feel like they make your feet sweat. But that's maybe just my feet? Also, I did not actually see any slippers in the airport yesterday or today, but I could sense that they were present.
I am taking a last minute trip to the US with my daughter in a few days and I’m already fretting over what to wear! I have NEVER worn pjs, but…black leggings with a sweater have become my go to. Kind of in between I guess…What was your OOTD? Tell us! And what kind of socks?
Haha. I was rocking navy trousers with a grey sweatshirt ("meet me in new york" embroidered on the front---so cute!) tucked in with a faux leopard skin belt. Socks are important because in the US you have to take your shoes off at security. So, wear your good ones!
Wear your airplane socks over your good socks. Then you can even toss them when you get home. And your feet stay cozy in the plane . And your own socks stay clean and safe from all the floor crap.
Vivian, your outfit sounds super cute. Makes me want to elevate my long haul travel look.
I still have TSA Pre so I usually don’t have to take off my shoes, thank goodness!! I should try to keep that status for as long as possible. Makes traveling with a toddler so much easier (pro tip).
Funny, I just wrote a post today that talks about Americans wearing pyjamas in public. I didn't yet know about the airport socks!

Double socks?? That is brilliant, Deb!!
Over the regular socks. That's a good idea.

I always forget I have to take off my shoes when I travel in the US. It's the most annoying (and gross) part of security for me.
